Sensors: power up to 150 W

Coherent produces nearly 100 different standard laser power sensors. These include semiconductor (optical) photodiodes and thermal (thermopile) detectors as well as thin film sensor technology (PowerMax-Pro family).

This diversity enables laser power measurement over an extremely broad range of laser output characteristics, and will allow you to select a system that meets your particular requirements in terms of performance, accuracy and cost. Coherent can also engineer custom OEM sensor solutions; please contact us to discuss your volume needs.

Utilizing superconductor technology, Coherent has invented a novel, thin-film technology to create a device which rapidly senses thermal changes due to incident laser energy. Unlike traditional thermopile detectors, in these new PowerMaxTM Pro sensors (Patent Pending), heat flows vertically through a film which is only microns thick, rather than radially to the edge of the device over a distance of several centimeters. The result is a measurement response time below tens of microseconds, as compared to over several seconds for traditional thermopiles. Plus, these detectors can operate over a spectral range as broad as 300 nm to 11 μm and incorporate a large 30 mm x 30 mm active area.
